S&L Soft Builder Gel is a clear, self-levelling overlay for weak, bendy, and peeling nails that adds ridigity to your nails. When applied, it settles flat on its own. No chasing it with a brush, no flooding the cuticle.

Wear it under color or on its own for a bare, glossy finish.

What's the difference between soft builder gel, hard gel, and acrylic?

S&L Soft Builder Gel is a soak-off builder gel, the flexible end of the builder gel family. It moves with your natural nail rather than fighting it, which is why it holds on thin or bendy nails, and it dissolves in acetone rather than having to be filed away. Hard gel and acrylic sit at the rigid end: stronger, better for long extensions, and removable only by filing.

Removal is the difference that matters most at home. S&L Soft Builder Gel comes off with S&L Easy Gel Remover or acetone. To do that, first file the shine off the top, apply remover, wait, and it releases. It takes longer than color gel because there's more product to break down, so give it time. A nail drill speeds it up, but it isn't required, and if you're not experienced with one it's easier to take off nail plate than product. Hard gel and acrylic have no soak-off option at all: filing is the only way, which is why they're mostly salon services.

Acrylic also doesn't need a lamp. It hardens in air rather than curing under UV or LED. That's the practical difference people usually notice first, along with the smell.

Do I need a base coat and top coat with the Soft Builder Gel?

Yes, both. The S&L Base Coat goes on first. It grips the prepped nail plate and gives the builder something to bond to, and skipping it is one of the most common causes of lifting at the cuticle. The builder gel goes over it for structure. Then color if you want it, and the S&L Top Coat last.

The top coat isn't optional either. Cured builder gel isn't a finished surface. It scuffs, dulls, and picks up stain from daily wear. The top coat seals it, seals the free edge, and it's the layer you file off first when it's time for removal.

Can I infill builder gel instead of soaking it off every few weeks?

Yes, and it's the better routine when you can do it well. You're not stripping and rebuilding the whole overlay every time, and your nails spend far less time in contact with acetone.

What an infill actually is. As your nails grow, a strip of bare natural nail appears at the cuticle and the apex (the thickest part of the overlay, which is what gives the nail its strength) drifts forward with it. An infill fills that new growth, moves the apex back where it belongs, and refinishes the surface. You keep the existing structure instead of starting over.

The sequence:
1. File off the top coat and thin the existing apex. You're reducing bulk, not removing the overlay.
2. Prep the new growth like a fresh nail: lightly buff the exposed strip and wipe it with alcohol. It's virgin nail with its own oil on it, and skipping this is the main reason infills lift at the cuticle within days.
3. Float a fresh bead into the regrowth area and blend it across the whole nail to rebalance the apex.
4. Cure, refine the shape, then top coat and seal the free edge.
